The team pays homage to its drivers, fans and partners.
Neustadt 27 December 2024 –Rosberg X Racing (RXR), a team founded with purpose, today announces the conclusion of its racing chapter at the end of 2024. This decision follows Extreme E’s announcement earlier this year that its final season would be concluding ahead of schedule. The news initially came as a shock, particularly to RXR, which was striving to secure its third Championship title. But with Extreme E now transitioning into the FIA Extreme H World Cup, this marks a natural moment for RXR to close this chapter.
Under the leadership of Nico Rosberg, RXR has always been deeply committed to e-mobility. The team mastered the racing format with electric vehicles and was honoured to make history as the first team to win an Extreme E Championship and the only team to secure a second Championship title in this pioneering series.
Beyond on-track success, RXR made a significant impact off the track through its Driven by Purpose campaign and its support of Extreme E’s Legacy Projects. From the outset, RXR was founded with a mission to raise awareness, educate, and contribute to tackling climate change. Through its Driven by Purpose campaign, RXR supported sustainability initiatives at each race location, partnering with global and local organisations and sustainability thought leaders. This initiative served as a key driver in RXR’s commitment to operating as a climate-positive team and a force for positive change in the fight against climate change.
Extreme E’s groundbreaking gender-equal team structure also significantly contributed to dismantling stereotypes and creating equal opportunities for female racers to excel. This progress was reflected in this year's Extreme E sustainability report, which showed that the average female-male performance gap had closed by an impressive 51% over just three years.
RXR’s female driver, Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, exemplified this advancement, narrowing her performance gap with teammate Johan Kristoffersson – a 7-time FIA World RX Champion and one of the fastest race car drivers globally – from 4.23 seconds in 2022 to an outstanding 1.82 seconds during the Saudi Arabia race.
Today, RXR celebrates its legacy and wishes Extreme H and all the teams competing next year well as they usher in a new era for hydrogen-powered motorsport.
Founder and CEO Nico Rosberg reflected on this chapter:
"Building RXR wasn’t just about racing; it was about creating a purpose-driven team that could make a real difference. From our championship wins to our environmental and equality initiatives, we’ve accomplished so much together. While it’s bittersweet to close this chapter, I am proud of what we’ve achieved."
Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky, RXR’s female driver, shared her thoughts:
"RXR gave me the chance to push boundaries, race with purpose, and grow in ways I never imagined. From our championship wins to our driven-by-purpose campaign to planting thousands of trees and inspiring kids, this journey has been unforgettable. I’ll also forever be grateful for the opportunity to learn, besides Johan, who is now a 7-time World Rallycross Champion. While I’ll miss the team, I’m excited to see where this next chapter takes me next."
Johan Kristoffersson, RXR’s male driver, added:
"Winning two championships was an incredible achievement, but what stands out most is the impact we made beyond racing. This has been more than a racing team; it’s been a family, and I’m grateful for all the great times."
Maximilian Wasler, Managing Director of Commercial Operations also expressed gratitude:
"This chapter of RXR has been really great. It’s rare to find a team so committed to winning and making a difference. I’m proud of our achievements and look forward to seeing how the legacy of RXR will inspire future endeavours."
Gratitude to Our Partners and Fans:
RXR’s success would not have been possible without its loyal partners and fans. The team extends heartfelt thanks to all who have supported this journey, including drivers Mikaela and Johan and its global partners who shared in the mission to innovate, inspire, and make a positive impact.
As RXR closes its garage doors, the values of sustainability, innovation, and purpose that defined RXR will continue.
