Rosberg X Racing is ready to bring the fight to the Enel X Island X Prix in Sardinia

Sardinia, 21 October 2021. This weekend Rosberg X Racing takes on the penultimate race of the inaugural Extreme E season, the Enel X Island X Prix. With two wins already secured, RXR arrives in Sardinia looking to extend its nine-point championship lead.

Following a strong start to the season with two emphatic wins in the first two races, drivers Molly Taylor and Johan Kristoffersson are ready to return to the stage and consolidate their strong performance so far this season.

RXR heads into the Enel X Island X Prix with new partner, Julius Bär. As an extension of their existing partnership with Rosberg X Racing’s Founder and CEO, Nico Rosberg, Julius Bär will be joining RXR’s #DrivenByPurpose campaign for the remaining two races of the season.

Leveraging its alliances with both global and local organisations as well as sustainability thought-leaders, the #DrivenByPurpose campaign is a key driver in RXR’s wider aim of operating as a climate positive team, being a leading force for good in the fight against climate change and in championing diversity and equality.

In the latest instalment of the campaign, RXR will be teaming up with the Italian Red Cross to support its local community that has been affected by the recent devastating wildfires via a voucher system. The Italian Red Cross has been responding to the wildfires in Sardinia since the beginning of the emergency, mobilising their local, regional and national resources.

This project aims to provide vouchers to the affected families, which can be redeemed in local partner stores. With contributions made from a number of RXR partners, RXR hopes to assist 200 families (600 people) across the weekend.

Marco Parroni, Head of Global Brand Programs, Partnerships and Sponsoring at Julius Bär, commented: “We are delighted to join forces with Nico Rosberg and his team as together we share the same vision of a greener and more sustainable tomorrow. Rosberg X Racing exists to succeed in competition as it does in driving awareness and education in fighting climate change so, although this is just the beginning, we hope through this partnership to create a real and lasting impact.”

The Island X Prix, the first race of the season to take place on mainland Europe, will be situated at Capo Teulada in Sardinia. As ever the course will provide a whole new set of challenges for the teams, with the ground baked hard compared to the soft sands which teams have become accustomed to. With rutted terrain, the course will feature fast, downhill sections, water splashes, and natural obstacles such as trees and bushes.

Speaking ahead of the Enel X Island X Prix, Rosberg X Racing Founder & CEO Nico Rosberg said: “We’re really excited to start racing again this weekend. The RXR team has had an incredibly strong start to the season and we’re ready to build back on that momentum and hopefully consolidate and extend our championship lead. As always, there is more to this weekend than just the racing, and we are proud to be partnering with the Italian Red Cross to support those families affected by the devastating wildfires this summer. With the help of Julius Bär, and with donations from other partners, we can continue to make a lasting and positive impact.”

Rosberg X Racing driver Molly Taylor commented: “It’s great to be back racing this weekend with the RXR team. We have proven as a team that we can really bring the fight to the championship and we look forward to doing just that this weekend in Sardinia.”

Johan Kristoffersson, Rosberg X Racing driver added: “I am excited to get back into it this weekend. We’ve had two wins already this season and with only two races left in the championship, it’s all to play for. We have learnt a lot about the car and how we work as a team at each race so we can really use that to our advantage this weekend and hopefully leave Sardinia with another positive result.”

On Tuesday 26th October, each of the nine Extreme E teams will be able to bring external drivers to the Rookie Invitational, in a bid to give more drivers the opportunity to progress in the world of professional motorsport and also join the electric racing revolution.

As part of the Rookie Invitational test, Rosberg X Racing will bring Extreme E Championship Driver, Tamara Molinaro. Tamara is an experienced World Rally Championship driver having previously won the Ladies Trophy in the 2017 European Rally Championship. With existing experience in an Extreme E car, Tamara will bring invaluable experience to the RXR team as it takes part in the Rookie Invitational test on Tuesday 26th October.

The first action of the weekend begins on Friday evening with Shakedown (19:00GMT, 20:00BST, 21:00CET), before the first competitive sessions begin on Saturday at 09:00GMT/10:00 BST/11:00 CET.
